Xenia Shoe does the BIG jobs!
At Xenia Shoe our repair policy has always been "If you can get it through the door, we can work on it." Well, we pushed that to the limits by repairing an EXTRA LARGE RV cover. Patches and sewing, but on a cover 30-ish feet long.
RV Covers, just one of the things we fix here at Xenia Shoe.

KSO Trek is here!

The Five Fingers Lifestyle package.
I just went for a barefoot run this morning. Just a mile or so.
I would have worn my Vibram Sprints but I took my family to hike around in the muck and rain at Hills and Dales Metropark in Oakwood, and now they are soaked and dirty.
Which brings me to the Lifestyle Package. It sounds corny, I know. But I have been thinking; If you really start to believe that "barefoot movement" is the way to go, you really need multiple pairs of Vibram Five Fingers (and an array of socks too). But who wants to run down to their local shoe store and buy 3 pair of shoes and 5 pair of socks all at once? Well, a shoe store owner might want YOU to do it, but the average Joe or Jane would say nope.
But Vibram Five Fingers and the idea of more barefoot movement can be kind of a life change.
So we are here to help.
Starting now, if you buy any 3 pair of Vibram Five Fingers and any 5 pair of Injinji socks, we'll give you 20% off your whole order.
So, say you work in a more progressive office and like to paddle on weekends. SO now you can get a deal on 2 pair of Classics to rotate at work and socks to go with them, and then grab a Sprint for the weekends.
Or you do CrossFit and work in a little more formal (stuffy) environment. Get two pairs of Sprints to wear for your workouts, and then a KSO to wear casually on weekends.
Sound like a plan? 3 pair of Five Fingers, 5 pair of Injinji socks- 20% off.
Questions?

Crumbling Rocky Boot Resole
Do you have a Rocky hunting boot you just pulled out of the closet, only to find the bottom is cracked and crumbling away?
Never fear, those disintegrating Rockys can be resoled! We tear the old melting / crumbling sole off and sew a thin midsole on, then attach a lightweight Vibram lug.
The job usually runs $65 and takes a week to two weeks.
So check out your closet and make sure things are in shape!

Refurbished Coaches
Worn corners and faded colors are all part of the normal long life of a classic Coach all leather purse. Lately here at the shop we have been refurbishing old Coach purses that folks bring in, and they have come out great! For $14-18 you can bring your bag back to life and restore color to those worn areas.
Also we have been buying old Coach bags and refurbishing them for resale. Stop down and check out the great styles we've found. Coach bags can last for years, and these are in their prime. For $55-$89 you can have your own.
So don't run out and drop $300 on a bag that says Coach, but is only made from vinyl and fabric. Either refurbish your old one or come get a reasonable priced "new" one from us.

Another 5finger article
I just got done with Born to Run.
When we picked up Vibram Five Fingers as a brand, it was more on a feeling than anything. But the stories AND the scientific research in the book really point to these "shoes" being a smart thing to wear and run in. Crazy.
Excellent book BTW, really great story line once you dive into it.
But my real reason for the post is to link you in to an article in the NY Times. It is a short version of the Born to Run analysis of the running shoe industry. It is worth reading.

The Next FiveFinger installment!
Ok, this ones for the ladies (they do have a similar version for men though). The Performa has the same fit as a Vibram Classic, but is made with Perforated Smooth Kangaroo Leather. It also has a good bit less sole material. The picture doesn't show, but there is no sole in the arch area. Another difference (a major plus in my book) is a velcro tab to hold the drawstring down.
As far as activities this model is best for, Vibram recommends Indoor Fitness pursuits like CrossFit, Yoga, as well as for Travel and as an After Sport shoe. You could also shine them up and wear them as a dress shoe...
Again, look for this model in Early to Mid-Sept right here at Xenia Shoe.
And feel free to comment on this model. There is definately some concern about durability here in the shop. I think the Kangaroo leather and gentler use still make this a great choice for more casual wear.
That's it for today! Check out next week for a men's model!

New Five Fingers for Fall and Spring 2010!!!
There are some exciting developments from Vibram on the horizon!
We just said goodbye to our FiveFingers rep who showed us what is coming this September, as well as in February. I wish I could post pictures, but I think it is forbidden!
Ah, what the heck. I can at least show you the styles we'll have in a month, right? I'll do it in installments, and here's the first.
The Men's KSO Trek is my biggest surpirse! Kangaroo Suede/Leather upper (Kangaroo is very soft and light, but quite durable. I know I know, poor little kangaroos.), light lug sole, and a 4 mm EVA insole for some added protection from rocks. If you have run on or hiked trails, you know that you have to be quite careful of what you step on. This should allow you to stay connected to the trail, have the natural movement in your foot, and get the instant protection you need to make a trail run/hike comfortable.
The one major bummer is there aren't any for ladies just yet. We'll keep you updated though.
Look for these in early to mid September!
AND tell us what you think! Is this actually a good idea? Is Vibram getting away from their purist roots? Feel free to post a response, or wait until tomorrow to see more new styles that will address that idea!

English Riding Boot Repair?
English Riding Boots are often an investment purchase. But like all things leather, they eventually wear out. An even bigger bummer is when you have a custom fit boot, that suddenly doesn't fit.
But never fear, the folks at Xenia Shoe and Leather Repair can get you back on your horse in good shape.
Full soles and heels can still be done on riding boots.
We can also replace zippers, ADD zippers, or even add gussets in either leather or elastic.
So stop down in your breeches and let us get your boots fitting right.

Xenia Shoe Repair: Born to Run?
Ok, running is not exactly the workout method of choice for your average Xenia Shoe and Leather Repair employee, but we are very open information that tries to answer the question: "Why does my foot hurt?!"
We just picked up our copy at Blue Jacket Books and are excited to dig in.
We'lll keep you posted on our impressions.

We have a winner.
Lee Weidenbach merely filled out a small registration card during the week before our First Friday Sale and won a free pair of Birks for the effort.
Lee walked away with a $125 dollar pair of Birkenstock Arizona sandals with a soft footbed.
Look out for our next First Friday event on August 7th.
Who know what kind of sweet deals you could get in on.
